My friend Dora Stilen… died… in a motorcycle accident.
I hurt inside, like when my mom died. Things are supposed to come in 3’s. This year they seem to be coming every 3 days!
2020… you can go sit down now.
If you didn’t know her you missed out.
As I continue to learn about writing I have come to the crossroads of “continue on in the same vein or… start getting more serious?”
One thing I’ve learned is there is “work” in writing. I feel like I understand what that work is and have committed the time it takes to do the work every week to produce new content/articles for three websites.
And also as an “art” I understand there are moments of inspiration that you can also use, or I should say, “benefit from,” because when I’m inspired I feel like I’m just along for the ride and there is no work involved.
After I heard the news of Dora’s accident I had to just sit and try to make sense of a world that has seemingly come unhinged.
So I turned to my two best mentors… God and his word, and William Shakespeare. Here are the inspired words I received that have given me some solace.
From William Shakespeare… “Bear with me; My heart is in the coffin there [with her] with Caesar, and I must pause till it comes back to me.”
As I talked to God about Dora’s passing thoughts of different verses and what is going on in America right now swirled around in my head… like a slow dust devil passing through an empty baseball diamond.
“Seek ye first the kingdom…”
“Do not go beyond what is written…”
I asked, “Why?”
“… because every man’s own word becomes his oracle and so you distort the words of the living God, the Lord Almighty, our God.”
I thought of the #CHAZ area in Seattle…
I can “see” the perspective of “the rebels,” we do need meaningful reforms both for policing and the corrupted political arena.
I can “see” the perspective of “the state” and how “force” can be used to “restore order” and “the rule of law.”
BOTH SIDES… use violence and the threat of violence against “the others” who do not “agree with” their arguments; ideologies; cause; and/or rhetoric.
Thus you will come to… “Who’s side are you on anyway?”
Jeremiah 25:7 “But you did not listen to me,” declares the Lord, “and you have provoked me with what your hands have made, and you have brought harm to yourselves.”
I’m not completely sure what God’s plan is, I do appreciate him sharing His word with me.
I can however share Marc Antony’s sentiment about his friend Caesar when he said, “He was my friend…”
So here I am to speak what I do know in regards to Dora…
“She was my friend.”

Same sadness for me as last Friday I found out my niece, my Goddaughter of 21 was killed in a workplace accident in Wauwatosa…nothing makes sense…there are no words…only the comfort of a tenderhearted God where I find solace. She dies while in “the far country”, has tattooed on her arm the Christian song by Hillsong titled “The Stand” but recently was struggling with confusion and her sexuality. Hope I can comfort those with the comfort I have been comforted with. Even so come quickly Lord Jesus.
