In the book ‘The Art of War’ the author General Sun Tzu describes 5 grounds you must be aware of during a war campaign.
One of those is called, ‘contended ground’ or ‘ground of contention’.
The main objective as trained by General Sun is to: Get there first.
It is not ground to defend or to launch an assault from, it’s main advantage is that you get there first.
In our relationship with God he teaches us that we are yet at war.
It is a guerrilla war.
The ‘ground of contention’ is our mind.
So how do we get there first and secure the advantage?
Go to the teacher.
Jesus as was his custom before daylight went off to pray.
King James Bible Mark 1:35
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”
As I embarked on the journey of The Emerging Man I have read countless list’s, articles and a few books on ‘habits of successful people’. One of those habits is an early morning routine.
I have incorporated and continue to cultivate an early morning routine, well before sun up.
The main component being 1 hour of specific time with God. I have gone as far as making it a mandatory meeting with specific topic of discussion.
Here is a challenge for you: On purpose, say it out loud, write it down and pray it to God – “tomorrow morning I will meet with God for 1 hour from this time to this time.”
Watch how the whole world will unravel and will try it’s darndest to get you to miss that meeting.
If you know for sure where the attack is going to come from then you can prepare for it OR if you see the thistle patch coming up, you can avoid it by going around it, right?, you can move out of the way of it.
My attacks have stopped coming in the morning and they can no longer touch me directly to try and scare me off.
So I get there first. Right, like the saying goes, “We attack at dawn!”
Well a message you can trust and lean on and get to know is found in Haggai chapter 1 verse 13.
13 “Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave this message of the Lord to the people: “I am with you,” declares the Lord.”
Then knowing God is with me I can prepare now for the internal attack the same way as being prepared in the morning for a physical or external demonic attack.
General Sun also say’s, “morning energy is keen.”
I say, “take advantage of that God given opportunity by following the example of Jesus, as was his custom, a great while before daybreak.”
