It’s funny, now that I have put into practice the successful steps that the experts write, talk, blog, and make videos about, it’s fun and eye opening when you get little confirmations along the way from very unexpected sources. Such as…

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and Zócalo Public Square present “Is Rock ‘n’ Roll All About Reinvention?” featuring Eddie Van Halen with Denise Quan.
I thought this was a great interview for a lot of reasons. When you watch it you may say to yourself, “Hey Dave, they don’t really talk about having a successful schedule.”
Righto!
One great nugget is during the question and answer section where Eddy is asked, “Could anybody  do it the way Van Halen did it in the past?”
Watch the video, I really love his answer.
The reason I bring this up, when I watched this video was during my scheduled ‘online time’, while I was eating supper the other day.
Let me preface my input about schedules with this truth… I don’t always keep mine.
Sometimes things are outside of my control, like the recent blizzstorm ‘Evelyn’ that went through Wisconsin last weekend or a mother-in-law who ends up in the hospital, come to think of it those are a couple of good reasons I like schedules. At my age I have come to the conclusion that there are way more things ‘outside of my control’ than there are ‘inside of my control’.
One thing I like about a schedule, say your workout schedule for instance, if you miss a day because the whole state is shut down, and when Wisconsin shuts down for a snow storm… you know it’s bad, you can go in the next day and pick up your routine you have scheduled for that day.
You can’t get yesterday back and tomorrow never comes so embrace today, embrace the schedule, appreciate it, it is there for you… it is not meant to be an iron yoke. The Bible says, “Gods mercies are new every morning.” That’s awesome.
I have found approaching my schedule in this fashion has allowed me to move forward on the fronts that I am currently engaged in. Such as my health… scheduled lifting workout a.m… scheduled boxing workout p.m, my writing… weekly writing schedule in place for spring 2018… including social media Tweets, Instagrams and a bit on Facebook about my new site theemergingman.com, coming soon, along with current book revisions.
You are not a slave to your schedule, your schedule is, or could be, new and a personal Excalibur that you need to learn how to wield in order to attack your day. See how it feels in your hand, is it balanced, how about in your left hand? Work it, so you know how it works.
Think creating a schedule is to much work, or you don’t have time to do one… those are the top two reasons you need to stop reading this right now, grab a pen and a piece of paper and make a schedule for tomorrow morning, write it down, make it real.
CARPE DIEM!
You won’t follow through with it… but it’s a start.
