The Very Beautiful Yellow Dress
There once was a little girl who went to school, who was very smart, very beautiful and very friendly and she had a brand new, very clean and very beautiful yellow dress.
The very smart little girl was very, very careful to never ever get her very beautiful yellow dress even the littlest bit dirty.
You see even though the little girl was very smart she was having some trouble learning how to read.
So she did not want to get her very beautiful yellow dress dirty because she could not read the wash tag very well or quite reach the buttons of the washing machine.
You see even though the little girl was very smart, very beautiful and very friendly she had a secret in her heart.
She wasn’t being loved at home.
So her very beautiful yellow dress became her safe place, her friend, it made her feel smart, it made her feel pretty and it made her feel friendly, not yucky, not alone and not scared.
On the days she didn’t wear her very beautiful yellow dress she didn’t feel very smart, she didn’t feel very pretty and she wasn’t very friendly.
But being very smart she learned that if she ‘acted out’, that’s what the teachers called it, she could get some attention. It wasn’t being loved but at least someone was paying attention to her so she didn’t feel, you know… invisible that day.
Those who saw her every day didn’t think she was very pretty or very smart or very friendly because of her ‘acting out’.
The little girl just wished in her heart that someone would see her for who she really was.
