Did Picasso set out to be Picasso?
No, he was to be a Ruiz.
Today’s thought pattern…
- a cluttered mind – thinking of Jordan Peterson’s remark about “cleaning your room”
- confused thinking –
- Successful at what?
If I do a painting… and Picasso does a painting…
His sells for $115,000,000.00
Mine sells for $115.00
are we both artists… are we both successful…
He is known round the world… I am known round town…
As the details of his life show, he was gifted, talented by the age of seven… an unusual child.
As an artist you may say, “I want to be the next Picasso.”
There is a line in the movie Moneyball between Stephen Bishop (David Justice) and Chris Pratt (Scott Hatteberg). Hatteberg reveals his greatest fear is the ball actually being hit to him as he is learning how to play first base. So to you, the next Pablo Picasso, in the words of David Justice to Scott Hatteberg…
“Good luck with that.”
As an author, I’ll leave the painting to you, I have chosen Jack London as an author to emulate… mostly in one respect… once he found the desire to write, and once he honed his craft… he was prolific. He wrote a lot.
I have found the desire to write, I have discovered it satisfies my minds restlessness, I have yet to hone my craft, to have it sharpened to a commercial edge. I’m still learning who I am and what I would like to write about and communicate with the world.
My ‘cluttered mind’ looks like my work area on my dining room table. Stacks of books, that are starting to naturally organize into specific topics, papers, bank statements, notebook, bible, the ever present The Art of War in reach, extension cords for phone and laptop charging, archery books, sheepdog books, business, leadership. “Thoughts that Inspire” and lunch/dinner with a soda or cup of coffee.
You know who else lived in controlled disorganization, Mr Picasso.
Picasso had a theory, “anything that is not in sight is irretrievably lost.”
Picasso looked disorganized… me too.
Picasso worked at night… me too. Rising late in the morning… me too.
I have the tools to be a writer… pencil, pen, paper, notebooks, laptop… and lots and lots of ideas!
Picasso was born to be a Ruiz. He chose to go with Pablo Picasso. And as they say, “The rest is history.”
Jacks real name is John.
I believe they became who they were meant to be when they understood who they were after a bit of life honing.
Success comes after the stage of understanding is understood, understanding brings illumination to the past journey, the present condition of your skills, and lights the future with it becoming more concise… to the point where you can make a clear goal, know the steps to get there, take those steps and when a mistake is made or a hurdle is encountered… you have the experience to apply to it and conquer it.
All the while still moving forward toward the goal.
I currently write for davebosquez.com, theemergingman.com, and am sharpening the idea for the next website thedefinitedad.com, along with having had a magazine article published and another rejected.
What’s the old saying, “Looks like a duck, walks like a duck…”
The thing about honing your craft, or the edge of your Falcata, is that you need to spend the time to learn the proper whetstone strokes, or in my case… pen strokes… that go into producing a sharp edge.
If you haven’t found yourself yet… you may have to clean that bedroom of yours.
