Did you ever go whitetail deer hunting?
No. You need to.
In Wisconsin the nine day gun deer season is quite the tradition.
Guys get down right goofy!
I’ve been hunting since I was 10 years old and have not shot anything with horns yet!
The one time I saw ‘a shooter’ was with my son Cole, he was 12 and we were hunting together in his older brothers stand.
Shuffle your feet, lose your seat!
It was a perfect opening morning, with a good cold temp outside in the twenties and fresh snow on the ground.
At daybreak out steps a dandy 8 pointer and with his, borrowed from a friend of his uncles, .30-30, open sights, lever action rifle, he took careful aim and waited for the deer to turn broadside and… Â KA-TIE-YA!
The little rifle cracked, the deer buckled …
and then started to slowly walk up the hill, he was dead on his feet and didn’t know it.
So just like I coached all my kid’s in what I would do after they shot, I followed up with my dad’s .30-06 and the deer dropped.
Cole still claims the deer was falling down already as I touched off the shot.
Later when I skinned it the bullet holes were right, one on top of the other, and only separated by one rib bone.
Both in the boiler room.
Cole had shot his first buck!Â
Deer hunting starts at dark:thirty. Minimum, an hour before any light is available. Two hours if you really want the woods to settle down.
As I write my review of ‘I DARE YOU!’ by Mr. William H. Danforth I want you to recall a bible verse from ‘When We Were Lions’.
ACTS 17:26 “From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.”
We are looking for the road to success.
It seems many have traveled on it before us but when we look for it, there is no clearly defined map of it.
It seems to lead to a good place and so I would like to go there some day and in my writing I hope to take you with me.
At dark:thirty in the morning in Wisconsin, on opening morning, unless you are in the middle of a national forest, most hunting happens around agricultural fields and small forests or wood lots.
That means there is a barn nearby or a large tractor shed.
Trust me on this one.
And when you head into the woods you look for the familiar yard light to get your bearings, you put your back to it and using the light from off of the snow, hopefully, you can find your way to your tree stand every time.
Quick note, even if it seems there is no light and there is no snow cover, if you spend enough time in the woods your eye’s will adjust amazingly well and you can see in the dark. No joke!
That is what we are about to do as we learn about Mr. Danforth.
See into the dark.
The bible say’s in John 8:12 “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
And elsewhere he said, “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
Mr. Danforth is like the light on the barn and the lamp in the house, we will study him first, looking back in time at a man who developed a successful program in order to improve his life, starting with a dare!
Which he happened to teach to hundreds if not thousands of people who have incorporated it into their own lives and have had all manner of successful lives.
We will be heading into the dark first though, starting well before light as is the custom of our older brother Jesus.
Looking back at the exact place and time of a man with a plan!
