- you need to have a crystal clear picture of what it is you are trying to attain…
- understand the exact steps or skills needed to be mastered…
- prepare being successful by practicing those steps over and over again until they are committed to muscle memory…
- be aware of where the right place and the right time are located, be able to recognize it…
- then being confident in your preparations, take your shot… confidently.
I’ve been writing about success recently and have run across a quote from a gentleman by the name of Cameron Hanes, he has borrowed it no doubt from the Stoic philosopher, Seneca, Cam declares, or states success this way…
“Success is when preparation and opportunity meet.” Then he tags his big, bull elk and posts it to Instagram.
Seneca stated “luck” is found at the intersection, but he was referring to success.
So, how do you attain a successful position? I want to look at ‘the position,’ or ‘positioning’ portion of the success equation. How do we get there? How do we know if we are positioned properly?
Then I have an addition to the equation… more on that later.
I have mentioned in my book, When We Were Lions, that as the starting pitcher for the 1980 Lions, I started out on the big mound, the incorrect position for a ten year old. I also share in my book that someone placed their hand on my shoulder and said, “That’s what I love about you.”
Then proceeded to move me up, into the proper position, the proper distance… and I was successful, both individually, and as a team. Spiritually, I believe now that that was The Holy Spirit who did that.
I’ve also been sharing recently my foray back into archery, and I will use my first archery hunt as the backdrop to help paint the picture of a proper position for success.
Here we go. Let me ask you to define… position.
noun:
- you need to have a crystal clear picture of what it is you are trying to attain…
- understand the exact steps or skills needed to be mastered…
- prepare being successful by practicing those steps over and over again until they are committed to muscle memory…
- be aware of where the right place and the right time are located, and able to recognize it…
- then be confident in your preparations, and take your shot… confidently.
