I have a very hard time throwing a book away.
My sister had boxes of books, but she couldn’t just toss them out.
We get that from our mom.
I was over at my sisters house doing a vehicle repair for her and she had two big boxes of books and some old kitchen utensils she wanted to give to my oldest son as he was moving out of the house into his own apartment.
When I was finished fixing the car I started going through the boxes of books.
JACKPOT!!!
I found a nice little treasure of books that my sister had picked up at yard sales because she thought they would look cool on her shelf and as decorations. She doesn’t read them all.
A few to mention, a favorite from when I was a boy, Big Red and one that fit into my Emerging Man theme of chronicling success. Health, Wealth and Happiness from the 1850’s – ish.

There was one however that really intrigued me. The ‘I Ching’.
I had seen this mentioned in things that I had read over the years and asked my sister if she knew what this was? She did not and only grabbed it because she liked the Chinese design on it.
To quote Wikipedia, “The I Ching ([î tɕíŋ]), or Classic of Changes, is an ancient divination text and the oldest of the Chinese classics.”
I assumed from my reading that this was a book of ancient wisdom.
It is, but as the intro indicates it is used for divination.
I felt let down. I was hoping for a cool book like ‘The Art of War’.
Turns out the ‘I Ching’ tries to explain the divination process.
I read a little of it to make sure. The author says right out it is used for divination, that’s what he called it, to predict the future.
God through his word has taught me to not mess with diviners, sorcery or witches.
So I put it down and was rewarded with this…
Psalm 121:1-2
“I lift up my eyes to the hills –
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Thank you Lord Jesus.
Now you may think, “Hey Dave, why so narrow minded?”
Ah, but wait.
I didn’t say that divination, witches or sorcery wasn’t real because some is. Thing is, you won’t know which is witch.
I said, “God said”, “Don’t mess with it.”
People who think they are utilizing that power are tricked. Those spirits are real and they are not your long lost Uncle Bill.
People are so sad because they do not know the Lord. They may want to or even THINK they do. If they did they would take his word for it when he says, “Don’t mess with it.”
It’s real, read your bible, find out what God has to say about it.
