My mom was a writer.
She had some items published in small periodicals and a local newspaper, where most of her articles centered on the outdoors and different hunting and fishing seasons around New London, WI.
The only thing was…
back in the day…
outdoor mags didn’t like those of the female persuasion submitting articles for their little printed and pressed endeavors and so she would send them in under my dad’s nickname…
Signed,
‘Johnny Walleye’
If any of those guys are still around I wonder what they would think about the state of affairs today and the ladies who represent hunting like…
Shemane Nugent, Eva Shockey or the couples craze shows on t.v. like ‘Crush with Lee and Tiffany’.
“Times they are a’ changin”, my mom was just ahead of the curve.
Heck, just ask the retailers. If it wasn’t for more ladies taking up hunting, sales would be in the toilet.
I went deer hunting with my dad.
But my mom taught me how to shoot.
On an old single shot 20 gauge that my grandpa got out of the Sears Catalog circa 1919. Oh yea. Still got it too. And it still shoots!
It was my grandpa’s, my mom used it, maybe all her siblings, all five of my moms son’s shot it and when I had kid’s of my own, all three of my boys learned how to handle firearms with it and went to hunters safety class with it.
Coolest little gun!
I will be posting articles, in their entirety, that she wrote, here on my site. She always wanted to write a book too.Â
She’s been gone a long time now, but maybe I can help her with that. Like when I was younger and would go visit with her and do a bunch of chores for her before we would sit and have coffee.
