1 Corinthians 12:28
Gods words on paper, to most people are just that, black ink on white paper. Quite ordinary.
To a believer in Jesus Christ though the ordinary words on paper are some how transformed into the very voice of God.
My daily devotional used The Burning Bush as an example of an ordinary occurrence, a bush on fire, used by God to reveal himself to Moses because he used an extra ordinary occurrence, the bush was not consumed by the fire, to get Moses’s attention.
Moses took notice of that, turned from his way to check it out and had an encounter with the God of the universe and had his life changed forever.
Gods written word is the most ordinary thing, but as I was getting ready to write today I noticed something about my article notes.
The topic will be about the gift of helps found in 1 Corinthians 12:28.
When I became a Christian and read these passages I wasn’t surprised that I had the gift of helps.
God built me to help. Ever since I was little. I help out. I like to help.
I always helped folks physically as much as I could and now I can help folks spiritually too.
It seemed like a small gift to me.
God did that so I wouldn’t get a big head.
So as I prepared tonight it dawned on me how Gods word is the ordinary burning bush. But something about it has stopped me. I have turned to have a look and discovered quite the blaze!
I have come into the presence of God and have not been consumed!
This little light of mine, right?
gotquestions.org says this about the gift of helps.
“It is one of the spiritual gifts from The Holy Spirit.
Those with the spiritual gift of helps have been given the unique ability to identify those who are struggling…
They move towards those in spiritual need…
God has given the gift of helps to special individuals who can come alongside others in mercy, grace and love…
These precious saints can lift the heart by helping carry a variety of burdens that we cannot, and should not, carry alone.”
A young gal at work said it thusly in a previous post,
She said, and I quote:
“When it is ordinary to you, it’s just what you do, and have always done, so it doesn’t seem like an extraordinary thing to you.”
Here is my dare to you today. (We’ll talk about the book later)
Stop. No really, stop for a moment. Get quiet. Take a look at two things for me.
- Gods word, look at it a little differently today.
- Look at what it is you do, what is the ordinary thing that you are known for, now look closely at that thread running through your life, go on, get real close, see God…
