What do you want to be… when you grow up?
A fireman, a policeman, a soldier… or a Dr. perhaps?
How about a Dr. Seuss? Is that a thing or a think? Does a roller need a rink? Oh the things we think!
Along my journey to discover success I have run into an Author, an Emerging Man and a Definite Dad. But those are not whatsit’s those are whosit’s.
I believe a better question to ask would be… “WHO do you want to be when you grow up? Can you draw me a complete picture of the person you would like to be when you grow up? Who are you at work? Who are you in character? Who are you completely?
Can you even imagine living a life of a Who in Whoville, or a Thinker in Thinkerton? What would you do, what would you be, would you like a dollop or three? Plopping them on the ground or up a tree?
Along my path of picking up new information, especially of the mind and how it works, I believe Dr. Seuss got it right when he wrote, “Oh, The Things You Can Think.”
“Think left and think right and think low and think high Oh, the Thinks you can think up…if only you try!” ~ Dr. Seuss
Now, where does a Think come from, under the sink or from across the rink? Don’t raise a stink. Are you blind? They come from your mind! (just having some fun folks)
Another fact I have learned… everything in the universe, the universe included, performs it’s designed task exactly as God has intended it to.
The baseball doesn’t lie, the arrow hits it’s mark, corn produces corn, acorns produce oak tree’s and the mind… it produces thoughts.
Picture it like this. The backdrop of your mind is a beautiful blue sky. The terrain you are in, life, is a beautiful Rocky Mountain – esque landscape of ups and downs.
Your individual ‘thoughts’ are coming from your ‘mind’ which is a Godly designed ‘thought generator’ and each thought is a little cloud that gets produced, sent up, floats across the blue sky, and comes and goes… because that is what a thought is designed to do.
A Think! though is something different.
A Think! represents a choice. And there is the difference. Our mind, our thought generator, is so busy producing thoughts it even produces them while we are asleep.
A Think! though… we try to grab a thought and keep it still. We wrestle with it. We dwell on it. We attach a label to it to identify it as ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ And our too many Thinks! become confused, bunched up, and cause us anxiety, pain and confusion.
But we fail to realize, and unless we are taught, that we give the thought it’s power and energy to make us feel a certain way… good or bad. We give our Thinks! power over us, especially those from our childhood, by building them up into unscaleable heights, insurmountable mountains, and unbreachable fortress walls.
We did that. We made it into something it was never meant to be.
The thought generator can be fed a better fuel. A cleaner fuel. So instead of dark, black, puff clouds of diesel smoke, with a white one once in awhile, you can create a cleaner cloud by changing the incoming fuel… i.e. information.
The individual thought that lazily floats across the blue sky of your mind is not the reality… the Think! you think on purpose, and build up in your mind, comes to fruition as your external reality. You Think!, “I never have any money.” Guess what, you probably don’t.
We are not taught this, and those that have learned it have created livelihoods from trying to teach others how to create their own freedom with it.
“6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me–put it into practice. If you are like me, and others I know, you do not know what you want to be when you grow up, regardless of age. So lets take on the responsibility of creating the Think! of WHO we want to be and WHAT that looks like.
I want to be a who, who is faithful.
I want to be a who, who is brave.
I want to be a who, who is healthy and strong.
I want to be a who, who is known as a financially viable Gentleman Author, Writer, Emerging Man, and Definite Dad.
I want to be a who, who is financially stable, able to make positive revenue streams flow from my writing and other applicable skills related to writing.
I want to be a who, who learned how to do home improvements to create a welcoming environment for my children and grandchildren to return to and visit in.
I want to be a who, who communicates.
I want to be a who, who helps.
I want to be a who, who is a grandpa.
I want to be a who, who is competent and dependable.
Oh the Thinks I can think!! As I continue to learn and hone WHO I want to be, the specifics I need to learn in HOW to make that happen, start to reveal themselves more clearly in small attainable GOALS and SKILLS that I can set and acquire. Putting one good Think! in front of the other.
Gods intentions with how Thinks! work require us to utilize the power he gave us… the power and responsibility of choice.
Think! a good Think! and choose wisely.
