Re-branding yourself takes time, perseverance, and brings up belly feelings of being inadequate.
I’ve been studying, and sharing, some biology information concerning our Vagus nerve. (It causes the butterflies)
I had a recent opportunity to apply, and put into practice, the new information I’ve learned about my biology.
With a conscious, mindful, attempt I was able to navigate a new, under stress, day job work requirement… and came through with flying colors.
By acknowledging the initial single butterfly starting to flutter in my belly, I was able to incorporate my new breathing techniques, along with my new self talk, directed directly at my vagus nerve, telling it that there was no lion around, it was only a bit more responsibility to be responsible for.
And it worked! I stayed calm… and didn’t screw up! Yea me!
Basic Fundamentals of SELF CONTROL.
I’m reminded of the movie Hidden Figures, where they re-tell the story of launching the first rockets, along with astronauts, into low earth orbits in the early 1960’s.
When they needed a “new” math formula to figure out a specific issue they were having in getting the rocket module back down to earth safely, as they sat and pondered… the boss… played by Kevin Costner… offered a thought… “Maybe what were looking for isn’t new?”
Then the title character Katherine has an idea and says, “Euler’s Method.”
Another character, her supervisor, remarks, “That’s ancient.”
She responds, “Yes, but it works.”
My NEW breathing techniques are not new.
My vagus nerve is not new.
My self talk… yep… is not new.
BUT… they are new to me. They are a new understanding I have. And now I’ve been experiencing them for myself… treating myself as my own laboratory guinea pig.
And so God’s Word rings true…
“What has been will be again,
    what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.” ~ Ecclesiastes 1:9
I believe this is how we grow. When we pursue true success, one of personal growth, Gods principles always shine through.
I’ve come to a cross roads in my writing journey… I believe my approach must focus more on my readers needs versus using my writing as a personal mental rehab exercise.
Certainly helping myself… but maybe being hit and miss for “you” my readership.
If you can’t take away, or use a bit of my information or experiences that I share, then I’m sinning the target of what a writer is shooting at.
Quote: Ann Handley, “…the best writing serves the reader… not the writer.”
But with writing, a writer needs some feedback… sometimes… so Thank you to those readers who have made a comment or two on my posts… it helps immensely.
So as I continue on down the road of re-branding myself into “a writer” I would like to ask you to leave a comment or two… once in awhile… give a critique… or just leave a thought that my article made you think.
If I do my job… a little better than I did yesterday… I will hit a chord with you on some level… I really hope it helps you somehow.
Take care, watch for deer!
